Ocean
Drawn to the sea again Clare Smith has produced her latest body of work. A familiar subject by day she became fascinated by the secret of the sea at night, where its presence is only felt and known through sound and the black vastness that can only be distinguished by a faint change in tone on the horizon.
Through Ocean she explores how the sea transforms as an entity after dusk. A subject that is familiar becomes something other at night. How we respond to it changes and therefore our interpretations do, not only through how we view it but how we feel about it. A different interpretation is presented through Ocean where the dark mass is not a foreboding, intimidating entity but presented as something of mystery and beauty. |
